Thor's Adoption Anniversary

Thor

Thor and Mojo (come let's play)

Thor and Mojo

Play time

 2011
That's right, it has been one year since the kids and I drove down to Kentucky to pick up Thor. We fell in love with him even before we met him but once we got him into our home our hearts felt overflowing. Thor has been a fun, exciting addition to our family as well as a keen guard dog for our home.

Of course, Thor had the blessing of coming into a home with a brother, Mojo. He learned his place in the pack and at times has tried to step up in front of Mojo but he quickly gets corrected and falls back in line. We can not thank enough the people who rescue these dogs. Tier Haven was Thor's saving grace. We can't imagine our life without him.

Play time!

Anyone who has a dog knows they love to play. Mojo and Thor are no exception and the two of them can play for hours. It's great to see them interact. Thor turned 1 on April 1st. Of course being a Rescue we had to make a birth date for him. April Fools day is perfect for this dog with so much personality. For his birthday we gave him and Mojo a new tug rope. However Mojo didn't see it as a gift for Thor!

Play time usually starts with Thor tempting Mojo. He keeps nudging him until he's ready to play.  Sometimes the play time gets to great heights. It's funny seeing them in the stand up position looking almost like kangaroos boxing!

Of course play time always settles down when they hear something going on in the baseball field behind our house.

Thor is still just under 50 lbs. He was sick on and off during the winter with Giardia and whip worm, so everytime he would get to 50 lbs he would get sick and go back down to 40. It was a bit worry some for a bit but he seems to be doing so much better and we hope he can catch up to his big brother Mojo at 72 lbs. Otherwise we will just have to love the little nugget for his big personality.

Winter Fun

Although most of this year's winter has not been white. Thor seemed to enjoy snow when it was around. It was fun to watch him try to catch big flakes whenever they were falling from the sky and unlike Mojo, Thor never minded when it was rain like.

Thor has grown some over the last few months (not yet 50 lbs) but still can not see out our front windows like Mojo can. So we decided that a stool as in order. Now Mojo and Thor can look out the front windows and see the kids come and go.
These two are very good to each other and we are so happy to have them as part of our family. These two are like my kids. Alike in so many ways yet very different.!

Thor's first Christmas!

We always send our Christmas cards out with a picture of our kids. This of course would include our furry kids too! Mojo has been use to posing for a while now, but Thor... well, let's just say he might not be so camera ready.

All is well that ends well! Merry Christmas to all our dog loving friends.

Never ending fun!

Mojo and Thor have been doing great together. I wouldn't say they don't have their days of minor disagreements but life is so full with the two of them around. We can not help but smile. Thor has grown from 23 lbs. to 44 lbs and Mojo's weight has been registerd at 70 lbs at his October vet visit. The two have very different personalities, but both are well mannered and eager to learn. Mojo would never defy the rules, where Thor can't wait to see if you're paying attention and then prances away like "that was fun!"

Puppy reminder!

Mojo and Thor napping until Mark woke them up with the camera.

We had a scarey reminder that we have a puppy in the house. This past Friday night we decided since everyone was home that we would have a family movie night. We had eaten a great dinner and I had made dark chocolate brownies for dessert. Anyone who knows our Mojo knows that he will never touch or take any food (not even a crumb off the floor) without us telling him it is okay. He won't even eat his own food without us telling him to eat. Well let's just say Thor is nothing like Mojo when it comes to food.

Mark set down his brownie dessert onto the coffee table and went to pick out a DVD for the family to watch; within seconds Thor had eaten his brownie. Normally I would not think even twice about it and I would simply just correct the dog, but these were dark chocolate brownies. The kind that can really harm a dog let alone a puppy. Annabelle immediately started to cry and cradle Thor. I went to the phone and called the emergency animal hospital. Thankfully, he only ate one and had no ill effects. Thor lives up to his name and is one tough dog. Annabelle after being consoled was happy she didn't have to worry about Thor.

Apparently though Mark isn't a quick learner, so on Monday while he was sitting on the floor eating his lunch Mark set his plate down next to him.Thor then snuck around the chair and ate Mark's sandwich without Mark noticing (no KISS was not on the tele!). Mark couldn't believe it. He was so quiet and fast. LOL! Duh, aren't we all when we don't want to get into trouble?

So to update - In the month that Thor has been a part of our family he has gained 10 lbs, has grown 3 inches taller and my floors have never been cleaner!

Mojo and Thor update

Mojo

Thor
Mojo and Thor are doing great. Thor has learned so much in a short time. Yes, he has taken a break on the China dig. The poop in the hole has worked, but now he thinks that is where he should poop. We will just have to continue to work on the correct potty area.
In regards to play time, there are times that Mojo just has had enough and almost looks like he's begging me to get Thor off his neck. LOL!

"Hey, did you hear that?"
There are some very nice quiet times with them both too. Sometimes after a calm few minutes of Thor adoring Mojo, Mojo seems to give in and gets up to egg Thor on to come and play. It is really sweet.
Mojo "Can you get him to leave me alone for a minute?"

Mojo "Alright Squirt let's go play."

Thor has learned to sit for the door to open.

Thor after ringing the bell to go out.

Thor has learned that doors do not open until you sit.  He has also learned that we will open the door to let you go out to do your business if you ring the bell on the door. Of course, he also thinks this bell is for play time too!

We have been so blessed to have these two beautiful and smart animals. We hope they both continue to learn and grow to be happy and healthy. We just love these boys and I think they love each other too.
